Working pit

Task

The lighting of a 40 m long working pit for lorries and buses needs to be switched on and off by movement. Once staff have left the pit, the lighting has to remain on for another 10 minutes before dimming down to a reduced illumination level of 15% and switching off entirely after another 5 minutes.

The luminaires and lighting control components need to be suitably resistant to impact, greases, oil, and salt.

APCON solution

The impact-resistant light barrier detects any movement along the entire length of the pit and sends a signal to the APCON SI1L-A sensor interface when it detects any motion. This, in turn, sends the switch-on signal to the connected DALI luminaires in the pit via the DALI bus connection. Once nobody is in the pit, the lighting remains at the maximum illumination level for 10 minutes before slowly dimming down to a reduced level of 15% over an adjustable period of time. The lighting then switches off after a further 5 minutes and a fade-out time.

You can freely configure these periods and fade-out times as well as the respective illumination levels in the APCON sensor interface. Another option is a so-called Never Off circuit, whereby the lighting remains permanently at a basic value of, e.g., 15% when no movement is detected in the pit. In that case, it can only be switched off by another APCON component or when it is disconnected from the mains. The APCON PS-A DALI power supply provides power to the DALI bus circuit. A maximum of 64 luminaires / DALI addresses can be operated in this kind of DALI circuit.
